Diseases of the chest wall involve conditions affecting the structures that form the boundary of the chest cavity. The chest wall includes the ribs, sternum (breastbone), and the soft tissues covering the chest. Here are some common chest wall diseases:

Costochondritis:
Inflammation of the cartilage that connects the ribs to the sternum. It can cause chest pain and tenderness, often exacerbated by movement or palpation.
Tietze Syndrome:
Similar to costochondritis, Tietze syndrome involves inflammation of the costosternal or costochondral junctions, causing chest pain and swelling.
Rib Fractures:
Breaks or cracks in the ribs, usually resulting from trauma or injury. Rib fractures can cause sharp pain and difficulty breathing.
Flail Chest:
A severe type of chest wall injury where a segment of the rib cage becomes detached due to multiple rib fractures. It can lead to paradoxical chest movement during breathing.
Pectus Excavatum:
A congenital deformity where the breastbone is sunken into the chest, creating a caved-in appearance. In severe cases, it may affect cardiac and respiratory function.
Pectus Carinatum:
The opposite of pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum involves a protrusion of the breastbone. It is also a congenital condition and may cause cosmetic concerns.
Rib Dislocation:
Dislocation occurs when a rib slips out of its normal position at the costovertebral or costotransverse joint. It can cause localized pain and discomfort.
Chest Wall Tumors:
Both benign and malignant tumors can develop in the chest wall, including osteochondromas, chondrosarcomas, and soft tissue sarcomas.
Costovertebral Joint Dysfunction:
Dysfunction or inflammation of the joints connecting the ribs to the vertebrae. It can cause pain and discomfort during movement.
Sternal Fractures:
Fractures of the sternum, often resulting from blunt chest trauma. Sternal fractures can be painful and may be associated with other injuries.
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome:
Compression of nerves, arteries, or veins as they pass through the thoracic outlet (the space between the collarbone and the first rib). It can cause pain and numbness in the upper extremities.

Malignant diseases affecting the chest wall can involve various structures, including bones, soft tissues, and surrounding structures. Here are some examples of malignant chest wall diseases:
Osteochondroma:
Benign tumors that originate from the bone and cartilage. They are usually slow-growing and may not cause symptoms unless they press on nearby structures.
Chondroma:
A benign tumor that arises from cartilage. Chondromas can develop in the ribs and may cause pain or discomfort.
Chondrosarcoma:
A malignant tumor that originates from cartilage cells. Chondrosarcomas can occur in the ribs and are more aggressive than benign chondromas.
Ewing Sarcoma:
A rare type of bone cancer that can affect the ribs. Ewing sarcoma is more common in children and young adults.
Metastatic Tumors:
Cancer from other parts of the body can spread to the ribs. Breast, lung, and kidney cancers are examples of primary tumors that may metastasize to the ribs.
Plasma Cell Tumors (Multiple Myeloma):
Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells, and it can involve the bones, including the ribs.
Osteosarcoma:
A malignant bone tumor that can occur in any bone, including the ribs. Osteosarcomas are more common in adolescents and young adults.
Fibrous Dysplasia:
Resim YazısıAn abnormal growth of fibrous tissue in the bone, which may lead to deformities and pain.
While often benign, fibrous dysplasia can cause structural issues.
Angiosarcoma:
A rare type of cancer that arises from blood vessels. It can affect the soft tissues and bones, including the ribs.
Neurofibroma:
Tumors that arise from nerve tissue. While typically benign, they can cause pain and other symptoms if they press on nerves in the ribs.
